Blight: Survival Weapons Overview
How revealed weapon archetypes change tempo, reach, and finisher potential.
Weapon variety is expanding as development continues. Public gameplay already showcases responsive one-handed swords, speed-focused daggers, and at least one heavy two-handed option — the Zweihander — with more types planned, including ranged. This guide explains how to evaluate each archetype for Blight: Survival without inventing damage tables.
July 2026 archetype refresh
Officials now explicitly contrast one-handed swords (reactive close quarters), daggers (speed/precision), and the Zweihänder (first shown two-hander), with ranged still expanding. See Weapon Archetypes.
One-handed swords
These are the teaching weapons of the fantasy. Faster recoveries help you learn directional exchanges from Combat System. They pair well with shields discussed in Parry & Shields and suit players who want balanced reach for both humans and infected.
Daggers
Daggers sacrifice reach for tempo and precision. They shine when you already understand spacing and can punish after a teammate’s break. Solo dagger runs demand stricter pull discipline — see Solo. In co-op, dagger users often convert posture windows created by heavier allies.
Zweihander and other heavies
Heavy two-handers introduce slower, harder-hitting combat. They are excellent posture crackers when you read correctly and catastrophic when you whiff in a crowd. Practice whiff recovery before you stake a deep push on a heavy kit. Convert breaks using Posture & Finishers.
Damage types and matchups
Coverage discusses blunt versus cutting effectiveness depending on enemy. Exact matrices are TBA. Mentally tag armored humans as candidates for blunt experimentation and softer infected for cutting pressure until official sheets exist.
Ranged and firearms policy
Ranged weapons are planned for future updates. Guns are not planned at launch, though the team has not permanently ruled out firearms in post-release content. Do not build a fantasy loadout around muskets today.
How many weapons at ship?
Officially TBD. Wishlist and playtest feedback will influence the roster. Track reveals via Developer Updates.
Choosing a first main
Beginners: one-hander. Confident spacers: dagger. Patient readers who love big commits: Zweihander. Then validate against the provisional Weapon Tier List.
Inventory discipline
Carry a backup archetype when weight allows. Missions punish one-trick kits when a biome shifts enemy mix. Extract rules still beat vanity — Mission Survival.
Cosmetics versus stats
Armor page covers visuals; weapons will likely gain skins too. Never confuse a cool silhouette with a kit that recovers safely.
Teaching loadout templates
Steady: one-hander with a shield-capable mindset. Needle: daggers for spacers. Hammer: Zweihander for co-op posture roles. Scout: lightest comfortable kit plus strict extract rules. These are teaching labels for squads, not official Blight: Survival item names.
Practice loop for Weapons
Turn this page into a weekly habit: pick one claim from the sections above, test it against the latest official Blight: Survival trailer or FAQ wording, and write a single sentence you would tell a squadmate. Prefer decisions you can rehearse—spacing, extract timing, loadout comfort—over memorizing unverified numbers.
What to ignore for now
Skip leaked calendars, fake key sellers, and influencer “day-one meta” sheets. For Weapons, the useful prep is confirmed systems, honest TBA labels, and a short personal checklist you can execute in a playtest lobby without opening ten rumor tabs.
After the next official update
When Behaviour or Haenir publish new footage, return here and mark which Weapons assumptions still hold. Update your notes with the trailer date, keep Steam and Discord as primary sources, and revise only the paragraphs that new evidence actually changes.
Squad briefing template
Share three bullets max: what Weapons changes about your first mission, which linked wiki page teammates should read next, and one risk you refuse to take until you have hands-on time. Short briefings beat essay dumps when coordinating Blight: Survival sessions.
Feedback-ready questions
If you enter a playtest after reading about Weapons, prepare two concrete feedback prompts—one about feel, one about clarity. Vague praise helps less than “telegraph X was unreadable in fog” or “extract UI hid the timer behind inventory.”
