Blight: Survival Factions
Three named powers — and they do not agree about the Blight.
The June 2025 Discord AMA is still the clearest public map of named factions players will interact with: the Writhen, the Blighted, and the Church of Eternal Dawn. This page organizes those statements without inventing politics the team has not published.
Writhen / Vanguard
You play a Writhen — part of a Vanguard on the front line against the infection. Role: infiltrate infected territories to understand and weaken the Blight’s spread. Initiation strips identity; masks serve spore survival and erasure of former self (Writhens, Stronghold Hub).
The Blighted
The Blighted stand as the infection-side faction in the AMA’s triad. Expect human-and-monster opposition shaped by the plague rather than a single zombie stereotype (Enemies, Nightstalker, The Blight).
Church of Eternal Dawn
Named as a faction you will interact with directly. Officials say factions do not share one theology of the Blight — beliefs differ about what it is, who caused it, and why it exists. Religion is a major world pillar. Do not assume the Church is simply “healers” or simply “villains” until playable builds show their quests.
Why disagreement matters for missions
If factions interpret the plague differently, side objectives and dialogue can pull squads toward conflicting risk. Align your session contract before arguing lore mid-fight (Campaign Structure, Co-op).
Political dynamics
Mads confirmed in-universe political dynamics and power struggles beyond the three interactable factions. Treat additional houses or kingdoms as TBA until named in Steam posts or playtests.
Separating Behaviour’s other IPs
Brandon stressed Blight: Survival is unrelated to Dead by Daylight’s Fog or Entity lore. Shared publisher ≠ shared universe.
Research habits
Date every faction note. Prefer AMA + Steam language over wiki speculation. When concept art labels a crest, wait for official naming before adding it here.

Masks as faction language
Writhen masks are both survival gear and identity erasure. Heraldry and deity choices from the AMA customization answers will likely telegraph allegiance before dialogue finishes — practice reading crests in concept art and trailers (Armor).
Blighted versus Church tension
Expect mission briefs that pull you toward cleansing, studying, or exploiting the infection depending on who hired the Vanguard. Write your session contract before debating theology mid-dungeon (Dungeons, Mission Survival).
Spoiler discipline
Fan wikis will invent cardinal names and schisms. Demand Steam or Discord primary sources before adding them to your personal lore doc — and before editing assumptions on this page.
