Blight: Survival Weapon Archetypes

One-hand, dagger, Zweihänder—and ranged still expanding.

Blight: Survival Weapon Archetypes

July 2026 materials finally spell out how the team wants players to read the weapon fantasy. This page turns those sentences into practice lanes you can rehearse before open playtests widen.

Design goal (official)

Brutal, weighty melee that rewards timing and positioning, feels strong solo and in co-op, and refuses button-mash success. Finishers are part of the system, not the whole system (Combat System, Posture & Finishers).

One-handed swords

Faster and more reactive; meant to shine in close quarters—especially interiors and dungeon chokes (Dungeons). Best first archetype for learning directional fights because recovery is generally more forgiving than great weapons.

Daggers

Even more speed and precision, less reach. Official copy highlights a “personal touch on unsuspecting enemies”—read that as opportunistic aggression and flank finishes, not as a stealth assassin MMO class. High skill ceiling when adds surround you.

Zweihänder / two-handed swords

July 2026 marks the Zweihänder as the first shown two-handed weapon. Expect posture pressure and brutal commits with harsher whiff punishment. Pair with patience drills and extract rules that forbid greed after a miss (Mission Survival).

Ranged weapons (expanding)

Developers say they continue expanding variety including ranged weapons. Earlier FAQ messaging still points away from firearms at launch—assume non-gun ranged until officials say otherwise. Do not plan a musket meta (Weapons).

Choosing a first playtest kit

New to the hybrid combat? One-hand sword. Comfortable with spacing? Try dagger flanks in co-op. Love commitment? Zweihander with a friend who peels adds. Record which kit actually extracts (Playtest).

Tier lists stay provisional

Public footage still under-samples movesets. Use Weapon Tier List only as a practice priority board, never as patch gospel.

Co-op synergies

Mix tempos: heavy posture breaker + reactive blade + bag manager. Identical Vierhander quads look cool and die together (Co-op).

Training card: one-hand

Ten minutes directional swings, ten minutes walk-back whiffs, ten minutes interrupt-and-reengage. Stop if you mash. Log whether close-quarter rooms feel natural.

Training card: dagger

Focus on entry angle and exit. Never empty stamina on the first target if a second can flank. Practice “tag and leave” before hero clips.

Training card: Zweihänder

Commit only on broken posture or isolated targets. Count to one after every miss before re-swinging. Pair with a peeler in co-op until solo discipline exists.

Sharing results

Post qualitative notes to your squad, not DPS fantasies: “dagger extracted twice, Zweihander bag lost once after whiff.” That is how pre-release prep stays honest for Blight: Survival.
